An apparatus consisting of modules in the form of carriages (1) provided with rolling members (3) and arranged in a string including at least one track engaging module for supporting at least one operating assembly (2), and a control module comprising a control assembly for controlling the operating assembly and the rolling members. The track engaging module comprises a chassis (4) that is H-shaped when seen from above and consists of a central body and side arms (42) provided on either side of the ends thereof so that recesses (43) are defined therebetween. The arms (42) comprise releasable securing means for securing the operating assembly (2) located in one recess (43) to each pair of arms (42) consisting of two facing arms on the same side of the body as said recess.
