PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wire material and its manufacturing method which is free from deterioration or the like of identification signs and enables highly reliable external identification. SOLUTION: There is provided a wire material 1 wherein an outer covering 4 whose base surface is luster-finished smoothly, indication parts 5 for identification signs on a surface of the outer covering 4 are each finished into a flat surface having a frosted rough surface, and the identification signs are indicated using a difference in surface roughness. A communication wire 2 and a steel core 3 are arranged and covered with the outer covering 4 made of a resin, and formed into the wire material 1 by extrusion molding. A stamp 6 has protruding roughened surfaces as indication surfaces 8 for the identification signs on a smooth base surface as a sign surface 7. The indication parts 5 for the identification signs are changed into roughened surfaces, by heating the stamp 6, pushing it against the outer covering 4, and softening the surface of the outer covering 4 by the indication surfaces 8 for the identification signs. |
