PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent frictional force between the surface of an image carrier and a cleaning means from being excessive and to always obtain an excellent image without melt-sticking toner to the surface of the image carrier by changing a parallel toner image formed in a nonimage part, in accordance with a value detected by a status detecting means. SOLUTION: When it is judged that coefficient of friction between the surface of the image carrier 10 and a cleaning member 16 is excessively increased from the value of the power of a driving motor detected by a power consumption detector as the status detecting means, a belt-like toner image having width of 2mm to the width at the normal time, for instance, of 1mm is formed so that a toner quantity is increased because the width is made larger, and the increased toner is supplied to the part of the cleaning member 16 coming into contact with the surface of the image carrier 10 and used as a lubricant for sliding between the surface of the image carrier 10 and the member 16. Thus, the frictional force between the surface of the image carrier 10 and the member 16 is prevented from being excessive, heat generated by friction is reduced and the softening of the toner can be prevented. |
