A device for retaining a snowboard boot on the board, including an attachment means (2) securable to a boot (5) for retaining one side thereof; a base (3) connectable to the board; a locking means (4) engageable with the attachment means (2) rotatably mounted on the base (3) about a pivot axis (40) to one side of the boot, and exposed to the force exerted by the boot when it is tilted sideways towards said locking means; and at least one resilient means (6) for exerting a resilient return force counter to the locking means (4) and preventing rotation thereof about said pivot axis (40) when the boot is tilted sideways. By separating the tilting and locking functions, wear problems are reduced and the accuracy and durability of the system are increased.
