A process for ultrasonic monitoring of the recrystallisation state of a flat metal product (1) involves:(a) generating guided ultrasonic waves within the product (1) by an electromagnetoacoustic system (4-7), out of contact with the product (1), in an emission zone such that the waves propagate in a defined direction (8) parallel to the major faces of the product;(b) detecting the propagated waves in first and second measuring zones (6, 7) which are spaced from the emission zone (5) and from one another in the defined direction (8);(c) measuring the ultrasound propagation time between the two measuring zones (6, 7); and,(d) comparing the measured propagation time ( DELTA t) with one or more reference values corresponding to a reference crystallisation state of the product (1). Also claimed is ultrasonic monitoring equipment for carrying out the process.
