PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a magnetic recording medium having excellent traveling durability by incorporating a polishing agent into a magnetic layer and distributing projections consisting of the polishing agent and the projections consisting of components exclusive of the polishing agent into the surface of this magnetic layer. SOLUTION: This magnetic recording medium has the magnetic layer 3 formed by dispersing the ferromagnetic powder into the binder resin on one surface on a flexible nonmagnetic base. The polishing agent is incorporated into this magnetic layer 3. The polishing agent projections 2 consisting of the polishing agent and the non-polishing agent projections 1 consisting of materials exclusive of the polishing agents are distributed on the surface of this magnetic layer 3. The magnetic layer is so formed as to satisfy the conditions of equation I to equation V when the existence density of the polishing agent projections 2 is defined as Kt, the existence density of 10 to 30mm in the height from the surface of the magnetic layer as K10, the existence density of 20 to 100mm in the height from the surface of the magnetic layer among the non-polishing agent projections 1 as M20 and the existence density of 40 to 100mm in the height from the surface of the magnetic layer as M40. The magnetic recording medium which has the good electromagnetic conversion characteristics, well lessens the head wear an has the improved traveling durability is thereby obtd. |
