PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To secure the space for placing a noise filter circuit by reducing the influence of heating of a discharge lamp on the noise filter circuit, as measures against the noise of the discharge lamp lighting device. SOLUTION: This device has a starting circuit 5 for producing a starting signal for a discharge lamp 7 and for applying it to the discharge lamp 7 and a noise filter circuit 6 provided between the starting circuit 5 and the discharge lamp 7. The noise filter circuit 6 is placed within a storage member 9 storing the starting circuit 5, or is placed within the storage member 12 of a transformer 10 which the starting circuit 5 is provided for producing the starting signal for the discharge lamp 7.
