System for the treatment of seawater using electrolytic means This is based on the electrolysis of two pure metals: copper and aluminium. Both are located in an electrolytic cell 1 into which seawater is pumped. The copper releases copper ions and the aluminium forms aluminium hydroxide, the former preventing encrustation by crustaceans, algae and molluscs while the aluminium hydroxide protects piping against marine corrosion due to external and internal agents. It can be used by vessels, oil platforms and underwater and floating structures which use seawater as a coolant for all kinds of machinery, and in coastal industries. The electrolytic cell 1 has its electrodes 2,3 connected to a transformer rectifier and the copper ions and aluminium hydroxide formed are passed to the water intakes at the bottom of the vessel, where applicable. <IMAGE>
