PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an archive device reducing time for reading a data file the reading of which is required from a removable recording medium by providing plural driving means for parallelly reading from the removable recording medium and a control means controlling reading. SOLUTION: A computer for control 5 controls selecting at least one of plural optical disk driving devices 4 according to the reading request from a main computer and selecting at least one of plural optical disks 1 to read selected data. In this case the computer 5 decides the number of the optical disks to assign to the reading of each data file corresponding to the priority of the reading request from the main computer to the archive device and a necessary transfer rate from the archive device to the main computer concerning plural data files. It is possible to simultaneously read out data from the plural removable recording mediums when plural driving means are free like the above.
