PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance sensitivity, to suppress the variation of reciprocity characteristics at the time of stagnation before coating with an emulsion and to stably form an image having proper gradation by incorporating a hetero atom-contg. macrocyclic compd. and a compd. having a specified sulfo or carboxyl group. SOLUTION: A macrocyclic compd. contg. at least one kind of hetero atom is incorporated and a compd. having one or more sulfo or carboxyl groups in one molecule and represented by the formula is also incorporated by 1×10<-2> -10g per 1mol silver halide. In the formula, R1 is sulfo or carboxyl, R2 is a group substitutable on a benzene ring, (1) is 0 or 1, (m) is an integer of 0-5, (n) is an integer of 1-3 and (2×1)+m+n<=6. The macrocyclic compd. is a crown ether subjected to ring condensation with one or more arom. rings.
