The use of Rhizobium leguminosarum bv. Viceae strain Z25 as an inoculating agent for the cultivation of leguminous plants represents a new symbiotic micro-organism for leguminous plants characterized by its infectivity, effectiveness and bacteriocinogenic capacity. The constituent expression of the bacteriocinogenic activity of strain Z25 under very different environmental conditions as regards the availability of nutrients (tryptone - yeast extract, D-mannitol, D-fructose, D-glucose, saccharose, L-arabinose, L-rhamnose, D-sorbitol, D-trihalose) and within a very wide range of incubation temperatures 4-37 degree C, and the efficiency of the symbiosis which it establishes with Vicia faba, are favourable characteristics for the use of strain Z25 as an effective and competitive inoculating agent applicable to crops of Vicia faba and other leguminous plants belonging to the same cross-inoculation group.
