THIN-FILM MAGNETORESISTANCE CONVERTER AND ITS MANUFACTURE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the increase of contact resistance at a boundary between respective lead layers and an MR resistance value and the contamination of an MR layer by extending a hard magnetic layer over the outer side edge of one electric lead in contact with it. SOLUTION: In a read mode, a bias current is impressed through the electric leads 66A and 66B formed by an electrically conductive material and the bias current is passed through the hard magnetic layers 54A and 54B and made to flow in the MR layer 52. The change of a magnetic flux interrupted by a transducer 32 changes the electric resistivity of the MR layer 52 and thus, the current made to flow to the MR layer 52 generates the change of a voltage. The change of the voltage is taken out in the electric leads 66A and 66B and supplied to a sense-amplifier (not shown in the figure) for amplification.
