A gripping cutter comprises a scissors-like chassis part consisting of opposite blocks 1, 2 on a common shaft 7, a fork-shaped tilting arrangement 31, 32, a saw arrangement 33 mounted on the rear end of the cutter, opposing timber- feeding devices 3, 4 mounted on both of said blocks 1, 2, lower cutting blades 5, 6 articulated at least on the front of the cutter to both blocks of the chassis and manoeuvred by manoeuvring devices, and at least one upper cutting blade 8 supported by at least one of the blocks. The upper cutting blade 8 is connected to both blocks 1, 2 by means of first and second slide members so that the first slide members in both blocks 1, 2 consist of a linear element 11, 12, oriented roughly in the direction of the actual block, and, adapted to these, slide members 9, 10 in the upper cutting blade 8. The second slide members comprise at least one slide 16 (in the upper cutting blade) which is nearer the said shaft 7 and at least one curved element 13 in one block, which second slide members are adapted for preventing rotation of the upper cutting blade 8. <IMAGE>
