The method for monitoring a petrol station region includes the installation of video cameras overlooking critical monitoring points, such as the till/shop (20), the price indicating board (32), the filling points or hose nozzle columns (27,28). The monitoring is carried out using video cameras (1,15) at the critical monitoring points (20-34). The video images taken are digitised and transmitted by radio, telephone or by a dedicated line, to the monitors of an observation station (22). The video images are stored and/or filed at least for a specified limited time span of hours, days or longer. The images of the individual critical points are taken simultaneously or sequentially.
