The suspension system has at least one elastic member (20) which has different flexibility characteristics above and below its transition threshold for a given load. The ratio defined by the flexibility value above the transition threshold divided by the flexibility value below the threshold is of the order of two-thirds. The elastic member of the suspension system is in the form of a spring with variable flexibility. Alternatively, it can consists of a set of two springs for laden and unladen weight.
