Combined inhaler and spirometer

Comprising a casing 21 that defines a cavity, a first or discharge opening 30 from which a subject inhales from the cavity or exhales into the cavity, a second or air opening 31 through which air enters the cavity. The casing also defines an open pocket 43 for receiving a pressurized canister and a medication opening 40 through which the contents of the canister discharge into the cavity of the casing. Battery operated pressure or gas flow sensing means are incorporated, and may include a pressure sensor 22 in fluid communication with the cavity, or a fan and photocell assembly (56 fig 7) which senses gas flow through the cavity. Means are provided for the display of information from the sensing devices. Also disclosed is an inhaler with a releasable inhalation cavity, and a further inhaler with an inhalation activated valve (59 fig 8).
