PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a 2-deoxy-1-thioriboside which is useful as a synthetic intermediate for a compound containing 2-deoxyribose skeleton with industrial advantage by allowing an aryl or alkyl mercaptan to react with 2-deoxyribose in the presence of an acid catalyst in an organic solvent. SOLUTION: 2-Deoxyribose is dissolved in an organic solvent such as dimethylformamide and an aryl or alkyl mercaptan such as thiophenol is added in the presence of an acid catalyst such as concentrated hydrochloric acid, stirred at a room temperature for 23 hours to effect their reaction. Then, sodium hydrogen carbonate is added under ice cooling to neutralize the hydrochloric acid, the treated mixture is subjected to silica gel column chromatography (hexane : chloroform = 1:1-chloroform : methanol = 10:1) to effect purification whereby a 2-deoxy-1-thioriboside which is represented by formula I (R is an aryl, an alkyl) and formula II and useful as a synthetic intermediate for a compound bearing a 2-deoxyribose skeleton is obtained. |
