<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain excellent water resistance by coating the surface of a sulfur mortar composition containing sulfur and a coal fluidized bed ash in a specific proportion with a water-resistant polymer or asphalt. SOLUTION: This sulfur mortar composition comprises 40-90 pts.wt. sulfur and 60-10 pts.wt. coal fluidized bed ash. The sulfur mortar composition is obtained by thermally melting 40-90 pts.wt. sulfur at a temperature above about >=120 deg.C which is the melting point of the sulfur, preferably about >=130 deg.C, preheating 60-10 pts.wt. granular coal fluidized bed ash, having about 20-50m<2> /g specific surface area and consisting essentially of SiO2 , Al2 O3 , CaO, etc., adding the preheated ash, stirring and mixing the resultant molten mixture, allowing the mixture to cool and solidifying the cooled mixture. The prepared sulfur mortar composition is then impregnated with a polymer solution obtained by dissolving a water-resistant polymer such as polystyrene(PS) in an organic solvent such as dichloromethane or asphalt melt, subsequently taken out, allowed to cool and solidified to afford a polymer- or an asphalt-coated material of the sulfur mortar composition excellent in water resistance.</p> |
