ARRANGING METHOD FOR DIMPLE OF GOLF BALL

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve aerodynamic symmetricalness and attain a stable flight characteristic by arranging dimples at the ball surface occupancy factor of the prescribed value or above so that the dimples cross each other on virtual perpendiculars, not on three great circle lines. SOLUTION: Three virtual great circle lines 2 perpendicular to each other are drawn on the surface of a golf ball 1 to divide the surface into eight spherical triangles 3 surrounded by the great circle lines 2, virtual perpendiculars 5 are drawn from three vertexes 4 to opposite sides to uniformly divide each spherical equilateral triangle 3 into six spherical right triangles 6a-6f, and the surface is uniformly divided into 48. Dimples of three types or above having different diameters in the range 2.45-4.20mm are line-symmetrically arranged so that the common side becomes the symmetry axis between two adjacent ones in the spherical right triangles 6a-6f. The dimples are arranged at the ball surface occupancy factor 74% so that the dimples cross each other on the virtual perpendiculars 5, not on three great circle lines 2.
