PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress variations in characteristic that result from torsion of a control shaft at the cylinder farthest from an actuator, in controlling at a time the rocking positions of the control rings of plural cylinders using a control shaft. SOLUTION: Cylindrical camshafts 44 split for individual cylinders are placed on the outer periphery of a drive shaft 41 which rotates in synchronization with an engine, and an annular disk 49 is placed between the first flange part 435 of each camshaft 44 and the second flange part 46 of the camshaft which is secured to the drive shaft 41. The annular disk 49 is held by a freely rocking control ring 50 and is connected to the ring 50 by a pair of pins 55, 56 which are engaged in engaging grooves. When a control shaft 59 is rotated by an actuator 61, the annular disk 49 is brought to an eccentric position by an eccentric cam 60, and the camshaft 44 is rotated at nonuniform speed, resulting in a variation in valve lift characteristic. The annular disk 49 of each cylinder is located on the side of the actuator 61 across the center of each cylinder.
|
