PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject oligonucleotide, capable of suppressing the protein expression of A type, B type and C type influenza viruses and variant strains thereof and useful as an antiviral agent for violently variable influenza viruses. SOLUTION: This oligonucleotide comprises a base sequence complementary to the base sequence of a target region containing a translation initiation codon AUG of a PB2 gene or an NP gene of the influenza viruses and has, e.g. a base sequence of formula I or II. The oligonucleotide can be synthesized according to a well-known method such as a usual phosphodiester method.
