PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the wear resistance of a cam and a rocker arm, in a gear which comprises the cam and the rocker arm serving as a follower member that makes sliding contact with the cam, by using the cam as a driver. SOLUTION: Over at least either the surface of sliding contact of a cam 1 with which a follower member 3 makes sliding contact or the surface of sliding contact of the follower member 3 with which the cam 1 makes sliding contact, (a) chromium nitride, (b) a complex surface layer of chromium nitride and titanium nitride, (c) a surface layer of titanium nitride over a bed layer made of chromium nitride and metal chromium, or (d) a surface layer having a hyperfine mixed composition of chromium nitride and metal chromium, is formed with its thickness ranging from 1 to 200μm.
