PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new fluoran compound useful for, e.g. heat-sensitive recording materials high in texture whiteness and texture preservability, with developed color tone being clear red, and high in color developing sensitivity and image fastness. SOLUTION: This fluoran compound is expressed by formula I [R1 and R2 are each methyl or ethyl; R3 is H or methyl; R4 is an (alkyl-substituted) phenyl or 2-5C alkyl], e.g. 2-(N-benzoylanilino)-3-methyl-6-diethylaminofluoran. The compound of formula I is obtained by reaction of a benzophenone compound of formula II with a diphenylamine compound of formula III (R is H or a lower alkyl) in the presence of a dehydrating condensation agent followed by treating the reaction product with an organic amine or alkali. |
