摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To continuously produce octadiene over a long period under a stable operation condition while suppressing the formation of byproducts and preventing the lowering of the reaction rate and the selectivity by reacting butadiene with formic acid in the presence of a palladium catalyst under a specific pressure condition. SOLUTION: Butadiene is reacted with formic acid in the presence of a palladium catalyst (e.g. palladium acetylacetonate) under a pressure controlled below the vapor pressure of butadiene at the reaction temperature. The control of the pressure is carried out e.g. by attaching a pressure-regulation valve to the reactor, regulating the pressure below the vapor pressure of butadiene at the reaction temperature and continuously releasing the carbon dioxide gas generated by the reaction from the system. Sulfolane is preferably used as the reaction solvent in the above reaction. The formic acid is preferably used in the form of an anhydrous azeotropic mixture of formic acid and triethylamine at a molar ratio (formic acid: triethylamine) of 5:2.
