PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the matching accuracy of a rolling mill speed with a transporting roller speed by fetching and controlling the backward slip of a rolled stock into a speed command. SOLUTION: This method for controlling the speed of the transporting table roller in the hot rolling mill has a constitution in which inlet-side speed command value before the rolled stock is bitten with the rolling mill is determined by the undermentioned formula, motors for the transporting table rollers 6 are controlled by this value and speed command value is obtained by using speed feedback value VFBK of inlet-side transporting table roller 3, further, in which backward slip is determined from this feedback value VFBK and constituted so as to control by estimating, forward slip (1+f) is calculated from this backward slip and control is executed. V1 =VM×α×K1×KF. In the expression, V1 is the inlet-side speed command value, VM is the speed command value of the rolling mill,αis backward slip, K1 is a constant and KF is an average result value of speed correction coefficient till the last time.
