BLACK LEVEL COMPENSATION CIRCUIT

The apparatus relates to the contrast control of a television to compensate the display of the image, especially distinguishes sharply between the black outline and the black signal. The apparatus includes a luminance channel for processing the video signal with the luminance component containing DC level and peak magnitude, a magnitude/contrast controller to control the peak magnitude of the luminance to the 1st predetermined level, a clamp/brightness controller(34) to control the DC level to a predetermined level, a gain controller to control the peak magnitude of the luminance to the 2nd predetermined level which is set more than the 1st level, a contrast controller to remove the peak magnitude over the 3rd level, and an adder to add an output signal of the (34) to a luminance which is below than the 3rd level.
