The hen house (1) has laying nests (2) along each outer wall. It is equipped with a water supply (3), feeding and processing machinery (4) and lighting (5). The floor (6) is covered with straw. The feeding mechanism is mounted on a Z-shaped frame (10) and has three levels (11) to which the birds have access. Each level has a feed transporter (16). The middle level is offset with respect to the other two levels. The offset allows easier access for inspection, cleaning, etc. The levels can be visually inspected (7,8) without stooping.
