Acquisition with improved resolution of electronic matrix image e.g. for output to video monitor

The image acquisition process involves deflecting a beam of light providing the scene by a rotating disc (3) which is composed of a number of sectors (3i) with different deflection properties. The image is focused in a plane near the disc and an image is formed across a lens (5) in the matrix (6) of photosensitive elements. An image processor (8) memorises each image fragment and the associated deflection and a time base synchronises the image with the rotation. Oversampling allows interpolation between the pixels to increase the resolution.The elements are standardised by substitution of the scene by a standard optical source.
