<p>A practice device (40) for improving batting, pitching, and fielding skills. The device (40) includes a backstop (42) which can be adjusted at different angles to the vertical to return balls striking the backstop (42) on the ground or in the air. With the device (40) configured for batting practice, a ball (46) is positioned at a selected height above and at a selected location across the span of a home plate (62) by a suspension system (44) which includes a cantilevered arm (83) fixed to the backstop (42), a tether (100), and a motion damping arrangement (94) which almost instantaneously brings the tethered ball (46) to rest after the ball (46) is struck and rebounds to its rest position. The components of the practice device (40) can be quickly folded or otherwise positioned against the backstop (42) to provide a compact, easily stored package. The practice device (40) can also be easily configured as a wheeled cart and easily moved from one location to another along with ball bags and other equipment that are stowed on the cart.</p> |
