The pedals are supported on a bracket (16) with two lateral projections (34) carrying a transverse pin (38) acting as pivot for the pedals (18,20). The steering column (14) is carried on a second extended bracket (12). The transverse pin is carried in a circular hole that forms a bearing for the pin. The hole is open at one side to allow it to break free in the event of impact. The movement of the pin deforms the lip at the edge of the hole, and allows the pin to move into an adjacent larger hole in the bracket. The bracket supporting the steering column is behind the pedal support.
