A method for reactivating a ruthenium catalyst, comprising the steps of bringing a ruthenium catalyst whose activity has been reduced due to the use in the hydrogenation of unsaturated organic compounds into contact with oxygen in a liquid phase, and holding the catalyst under a lower partial pressure of hydrogen than that in the hydrogenation and at a temperature which is not lower than the hydrogenation temperature minus 50 DEG C.
