The holder consists of a hollow cylinder (12) with two flat inner surfaces (14, 16) which converge towards a lengthwise slot (18) through which a flat article (10) can be inserted. The edge of the flat article is held in place inside the cylinder by one or more rollers (20) which have diameters greater than the width of the slot. The rollers are pushed towards the cylinder's slot by coil springs (26) set at regular intervals between a fixing strip (24) and a pressure plate (26), by a wavy spring strip or an elastic foam cushion, e.g. of polyurethane foam. The rollers can be made, for example, from a metal such as steel or aluminium, wood, fibreglass or a plastic such as PVC.
