A volume adapted to a night call is selected in response to the key input to set a volume. The method also involves setting a time period in which the telephone outputs a sound signal with the selected volume. Alternatively, it is determined whether the telephone is in a volume setting mode adapted to a night call, when the telephone receives a call.
