The roll bar (3) comprises side bars (1,2) which extend vertically and the axes of their linkages (12,13) stretch horizontally between the roll bar and the side bars along the front to back axis of the vehicle. The linkages are made of an elastic damping material. Only one of the side bars (1) has a bolted device (18) which is directly activated by a crash-sensor signal. The second side bar has a bolted device (19,20) which, in the event of a crash, is mechanically activated through the movement of the first side bar.
