A system for testing the voice coil element of a disk drive rotary actuator

The system includes a device for coupling the voice coil member to the reference coil. A polarity test circuit determines the polarity of the voice coil connections including the reference coil. A signal generator is provided for supplying a test signal to the voice coil member. The system also incorporates a connection device for selectively connecting the polarity test circuit to the voice coil member including a pair of terminals for attaching the voice coil member. A device is also incorporated for determining whether a test signal supplied to the voice coil member from the signal generator produces a signal in the reference coil which is in phase with the supplied test signal.
