A silicon-containing charge transporting material represented by formula wherein A denotes an organic group derived from a charge transporting compound having an ionization potential within the range of 4.5-6.2 e V, which is a tertiary amine having a plurality of aromatic groups, R<1> is an alkylene group of 1-18 carbon atoms, R<2> is a monovalent hydrocarbon group or a halogen-substituted monovalent hydrocarbon group of 1-15 carbon atoms , Q is a hydrolyzable group; and n and p are each integers from 1-3.
