In a first method, in which wash acid is sprayed, as in the prior art, into the top (2') of a washing tower (2) through a system of nozzles (10), the invention calls for wash acid also to be sprayed at a pressure of 1 to 5 bar into the gas line (1) feeding into the washing tower (2), the pressure at the top (2') of the washing tower (2) being kept at 0.01 to 0.5 bar. In a second method, the invention calls for the wash acid to be introduced into the washing tower (2) over at least one plate and for wash acid also to be sprayed at a pressure of 1 to 5 bar into the gas line (1) feeding into the washing tower (2).
