<p>An improved print mode and system for alleviating wait-banding, haloing, and bloom is disclosed. Printing is done with separate black and color printheads. The color nozzle groups are arranged vertically with respect to each other on the color printhead, and each nozzle group is approximately 1/3 the height of the black nozzle swath height. In the disclosed print mode, the black and color shingle patterns are asymmetric in their area fill density. The black scans are printed with a 1/3 shingle pattern, or 33% area fill, and the black scans are made at the maximum carriage speed. After each black scan, no paper advance is made, and a color scan is in the opposite direction, with 100% area fill, or in other words, no shingle pattern. After each color scan, the paper is advanced approximately 1/3 of the total black swath height. Another black scan is then made, and the process repeats. An alternative embodiment uses a 1/6 area fill shingle pattern for black and 1/2 area fill shingle pattern for color. In this mode, the paper advances after each color scan is 1/6 of the black swath height. <IMAGE></p> |
