PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a monofilament high in elastic modulus and knot and/or loop strength under high-humidity environment, good in resistance to chemicals and hydrolysis, thus useful for e.g. paper manufacturing machine fabrics, by making a naphthalenedicarboxylic acid unit-contg. specific copolyester into fibers. SOLUTION: The monofilament useful for the subject paper manufacturing machine fabric is obtained by melt spinning of a copolyester composed of 85-99mol% of structural recurring unit of the formula (R<1> is a radical of a divalent aliphatic or alicyclic alcohol, or a group derived from a mixture of such alcohols) and 1-15mol% of structural recurring unit of the formula OC-R<2> - CO-O-R<3> -O (R<2> is a radical of an aliphatic, alicyclic or monocyclic aromatic dicarboxylic acid, or a group derived from a mixture of such dicarboxylic acids; R<3> is one of the definition of R<1> ).
