<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive element of a color display type with which the display performance and yield are improved without using plastic beads and the number of stages is decreased. SOLUTION: The spacers 33 are composed of laminates (33R, 33G, 33B) of colored layers constituting color filters and are arranged in the position of an active matrix substrate 10 where the dielectric breakdown strength is high. As a result, the plastic beads are not used and, therefore, the display performance is improved and the insulation is maintained. If the spacers are formed into a reverse taper shape, conductive layers are not formed on the flanks and, therefore, the contact positions of the spacers are freely selectable. While the spacers are disposed on a counter substrate 30, the spacers may be disposed on the active matrix 10 side as well.</p> |
