LUMINANCE AND CHROMINANCE SEPARATION METHOD USING MOTION ADAPTATION

The method is for separating luminance and color signals from a composite image signal using a dynamic adaptation, comprising the steps of: creating first and second color signals by frame- and comb-filtering a received composite image signal; detecting a first correlation between the frames from the composite image signal and a second correlation between lines of the frame and the horizontal direction to thereby creating a first and a second correlation coefficients; selecting either the first correlation coefficient or the second correlation coefficient from the comparison of the first and second correlation coefficients; and subtracting either the first or second color signal from the composite image signal delayed by a selected tim to separate the luminance signal from the composite image signal.
