OPTICAL COMPENSATION SHEET

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical compensation sheet improved in narrow visual field angle characteristics generated when the polarization state of light propagating through a liquid crystal cell is different according to an incident direction for the first time and having the excellent durability against light for the second time. SOLUTION: An optical compensation sheet has at least one monodomain membrane of a discotic nematic phase formed from discotic liquid crystal liquid crystal compds. or a mixture of them or a uniaxial columnar phase and one surface of the monodomain membrane is in contact with an air phase and the optical axis of the sheet is inclined by 5-50 deg. from the normal line direction of the sheet surface.
