PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control the engine brake during coasting so that a sense of deceleration according to the expectation of the driver can be obtained in compliance with the car speed. SOLUTION: A shift control device for a continuously variable transmission is equipped with a shift control means 50 to control a gear ratio altering means 5 so that the input shaft revolving speed is identical to the target input revolving speed complying with the driving condition, a means 51 to sense the acceleration, an opening sensing means 52 to sense the stamped condition of an accel. pedal, and a means 53 which compares the acceleration with the specified threshold when release of the accel. pedal is sensed. The arrangement further includes an engine brake increment correction calculating means 54 to largely correct the target input revolving speed when the acceleration has exceeded the threshold, a corrective target input revolving speed setting means 55 to add the correction amount to the target input revolving speed, and a threshold altering means 56 to decrease the threshold in compliance with the car speed. The shift control means 50 controls the gear ratio altering means 5 on the basis of the target input revolving speed after correction. |
