PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic focus adjustment device in which the effect of smear is not caused. SOLUTION: An incident light from an object through an image pickup lens 12 is converted into point-sequential RGB signal 100 by an image pickup device 18 and fed to a signal processing circuit 30, in which the signal is separated into R, G, B signals. The G signal 104 is fed directly to an A/D converter 40, in which the signal is converted into a digital signal 112 and outputted to an integration circuit 40 or to a BPF 32 and only a required band is extracted, an absolute value detection circuit 34 conducts each processing such as positive polarization, outputted to the A/D converter 36, in which the signal is converted into the digital signal 112 and outputted to the integration circuit 40. The integration circuit 40 integrates data in each area and the result is fed to a smear detection circuit 62. The detection circuit 42 extracts smear evaluation data 114 after integration in the areas 13-16 and compares it with a prescribed value to specify the area having smear. The control circuit 60 receiving the area specific signal from the detection circuit 62 and a 1st mode signal not conducting exposure control from a mode selection button circuit 52 extracts AF evaluation data 114 after integration in the specific area to drive an AF motor 22 and to control the image pickup lens for focusing. |
