987,793. Change-speed gear; ratchet clutches. FICHTEL & SACHS A.G. Dec. 19, 1962 [Dee. 22, 1961], No. 47969/62. Headings F2C and F2D. Centrifugal masses 16, Fig. 1, guided by pins 36 and radial grooves 18 on a carrier sleeve 17 rotatable about a fixed axle and driven at a step-up ratio from a cycle hub 2 through a simple gear train 20, 26, fly outwards at a predetermined hub speed against the bias of garter springs 24 and thus release pawls 23, Fig. 2, which they overlap, for spring-biased engagement with ratchet teeth 15 in the hub, a step-up drive thus being obtained from an input sprocket 25 and a sleeve 3, coupled at 11 to a carrier 4 mounting planet pinions 9 meshing a fixed sun gear 7 and a ring gear 10, itself coupled at 12 to the support 13, 14 of the pawls 23. Prior to outwards movement of the centrifugal masses 16, the input sprocket 25 and carrier 4 drive the hub 2 directly through pawls (not shown) engaging ratchet teeth 6 in a ring secured to the hub, these pawls overrunning when the step-up ratio is established. The edges 38 of the masses 16 overlap the edges of the pawls 23, which are biased to turn in the engaging direction by a ring spring 35. |
