PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate a complicated and time consuming name setting operation by utilizing the symbol, which is recorded in a database corresponding to the coordinate data on map information, as the name of the position that is specified during a destination position specifying operation. SOLUTION: If an operation button 7b of an operation device 7 is pushed in either an own vehicle position display (POS) mode or a map retrieving (MAP) mode, the processing operation of a navigation computer 1 is transferred to a destination position specifying (WP) mode. At that time, the position, which is designated by a cursor, is made the position to be registered and the coordinate data and the name of the position are registered. After the registration, the mode returns to the original mode. Thus, the name is automatically selected from the symbols by simply specifying the position of the destination to be registered (for example, just by pushing the button 7b) and the name is registered along with the designated position coordinates as the name of the destination and the complicated and easily mishandled name inputting operation becomes unnecessary. |
