PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate an operability by using a symbol recorded corresponding to coordinate data in map information in the data base as a name of a specified point in the case of a destination designating operation. SOLUTION: A center point of a displayed map, namely coordinates of a cursor position are obtained and are defined as a designated position. Next, a symbols retrieved which is read into a display data memory with map information from a CD-ROM 4. Among the symbols maintained in the display data memory with these map information, a symbol set at a coordinate position at the shortest distance from the coordinates of the designated position is retrieved. A navigation computer 1 then instructs a monitor device 2 to execute to display the symbol. Namely, the monitor displays the name of the designated position which represents the designated position and the name for user. And the desianated position coordinates and the symbol defined as the name are corresponded to each other to be stored in the destination memory. This is used as a destination of a display operation. |
