摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To miniaturize the recording and reproducing device for a magnet optical recording medium while enabling optical modulation overwriting by attaining the interchangeability with another recording and reproducing device in ISO standards. SOLUTION: This magneto-optical recording medium is constituted by laminating a first magnetic layer which is a rate earth transition metal alloy having high coercive force at room temp. and rich in transition metal from room temp. to the Curie point, a second magnetic layer which is a rare earth transition metal alloy having the Curie point higher than the Curie point of this first magnetic layer and rich in transition metal at room temp. and a third magnetic layer which is a rare earth transition metal alloy which is rich in transition metal at room temp., having the Curie point higher than the Curie point of the first magnetic layer and having a compensation point from room temp. to the Curie point in this order. The magnetization of the third magnetic layer is transferred to the first magnetic layer at the temp. higher than room temp. The perpendicular magnetic anisotropy Ku3 of the third magnetic layer at room temp. satisfies 0.3×10<6> erg/cc<Ku3<1.0×10<6> erg/cc.
