PRODUCTION OF SURFACE-TREATED CARBON BLACK FOR RUBBER REINFORCEMENT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a carbon black having excellent temperature dependency of tanδsimilar to silica and high abrasion resistance and free from problems caused by low electrical conductivity. SOLUTION: A carbon black for rubber-reinforcement is dispersed in water and reacted with a metal silicate and an acid to effect the deposition of amorphous silica on the surface of the carbon black preferably at pH 6-12 and the product is aged by keeping the pH of the system to <=7 (preferably >=4). The feeding rate of the metal silicate in the surface treatment reaction is 0.001-0.110g/min in terms of silica based on 100g of the carbon black.
