PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically display a divided editing area and an editing area newly generated by division by calculating the position and the size of the editing area on a picture based on the division method and information of the division position. SOLUTION: A controller 1 discriminates the indication inputted from an input part 2. An area control part 5 instructs an operator to input the designation of picture division in the vertical direction or the horizontal direction and the position of a division boundary. An area size calculation part 7 calculates the left upper position (coordinate values) on the picture of the editing area and the size of the editing area based on the division method and information of the division position inputted by the operator and area information managed by the area control part 5. When only one editing area is set in the picture on a display device, the frame of the editing area is not displayed; but when the picture is divided into two editing areas from this state, frames are automatically displayed.
